Another Bank Holiday = Another trip out :o)

So August bank holiday and for us that means another chance to escape for a few days.  Phil's favourite airplane has always been the Mosquito so we took the chance to visit the DeHavilland Museum.  As always we have to break the journey on the way down as I can't manage too long in one position so we look out for more Wetherspoons to add to the list and take advantage of their low priced teas and coffees (and sometimes bacon butties!)

The Hart & Spool, Borehamwood

Another amazing find, this is where we had tea (do love their steak & kidney pud!)
Waterend Barn, St Albans - actually two barns moved and re-erected at different times :o)

The Bell, Aylesbury

and The White Hart, Aylesbury (Really liked the image in the hanging sign
hence second photo

The Cordwainer, Northampton

The Moon on the Square, Northampton

The Sugar Loaf, Market Harborough

We had an overnight stay in a car-park in Great Missenden (one reason we manage to travel around when we do get chance is due to not stopping on campsites and using the money we save from that on diesel instead) and then on the Monday paid a visit to Obsidian Art in Stoke Mandeville just outside Aylesbury.  There was an exhibition on by many of my favourite artists : Hannah Willow; Wendy Andrews; and Jaine Rose amongst others.  A lovely little gallery with some beautiful works of art - I left with three greetings cards which I shall frame and covet until I can afford some larger pieces.

Our rest-stop on the way home was Eyebrook Reservoir, we had lovely views across the water and were treated to huge flocks of geese flying in.  In the morning we could see that there were also ducks, swans and egrets.

Week away in August - Anglesey, Wales, Cumbria :o)

As you can probably tell, we live for bank holiday weekends!! The first few are from a little overnight trip out at the end of July to test Kitty after Phil had done a but of work on her.  But then Phil got a week off in August so we made the most of it - well you have to don't you?!

 The Court House, Mansfield

The Stag & Pheasant, Mansfield

The Widow Frost, Mansfield

The Picture House, Sutton in Ashfield

The Regent, Kirkby in Ashfield

The Forest House, (lunch!) Chester

The Square Bottle, Chester

The Picture House, Colwyn Bay, another interesting building inside, with many different floor levels :o)

The Palladium, Llandudno

The Black Bull, Bangor

Not a Wetherspoons this one, but when you're away you have to do the touristy stuff too and that includes an obligatory photo at Llanfairpwllgwyngwyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch!

Tafarn y Porth, Caernarfon

Pen Cob, Pwllheli

The Sussex, Rhyl

The Castle, Ruthin

The Elihu Yale, Wrexham

The North and South Wales Bank, Wrexham

The Grey Friar, Preston

The Twelve Tellers, Preston - a converted bank like a few Wetherspoons but lots of great details left intact, and some little quirky rooms.

The Sir Richard Owen, Lancaster

The Green Ayre, Lancaster

Special one this, The Eric Batholomew (in honor of Eric Morecambe) in Morecambe

The Furness Railway, Barrow in Furness

The Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, Keswick - this holds an old court room and some cells, in the cells the doors have been left in place and some interesting artwork really fits the theme

The Dog Beck, Penrith

And just to show we don't just visit the Wetherspoons, here are some photos from this trip!

Cheers for now,
Thanks for reading
